Inn Lay Lake Wet Land Sanctuary

Located between 20 10'N and 97 02' E in Nyaung Shwe, Pin Laung and Peh Kon Townships of southern Shan state. Elevation over 29000 feet.

Yangon to Naung Shwe (430)miles by car.
Yangon to Heho 335 miles by air and Heho to Nyaung Shwe 14 miles by car.
Yanon-Thazi-Shwe Nyaung -(320)miles by rail and Shwe Nyaung to Nyaung Shwe (10) miles by car.

Objective & Characteristic
(a) To conserve and protect natural vegetation, wetland birds and fresh water fishes in Inlay sanctuary.
(b) To conserve geological features and scenic beauty of mountain areas.
(c) To conserve Inlay watershed and maintain water resource for Law-Pi-Ta hydroelectric power plant.
(d) To conserve and educate the local people in traditional floating agriculture practiced by "Inn" lake-dwellers.
(e) To upgrade the Sanctuary so as to promote eco-tourism.
(f) Observation on famous wetland ecosystem of Inle, about sea level 2950ft.
Enjoying scenic beauty of Shan plateau.
(g) Observation and studying on traditional style of leg-rowers.
(h) Observation of floating agriculture practiced by local dwellers.
(i) Observation migratory birds, butterflies.
(j) Visiting historical Hpaung Daw Oo Pagoda and Buddhist culture.

Forest Type & Vegetables
Oryza granulate, Dalbergia spinosa, Hypericum prunizolium, Coladium species., Desmodium oblongum, Enhydra zluctuans, Panicum mentosum grow on the natural floating islets. Salix tetrasperma, Ficus spp. Crataexa nurvala, Mitragyna parvizolia, Salmalia malabarica, Bombax malabaricum are found in shallow water or on the shores.

Note : Inlay may be visited all the year round, but the best time for bird watching and trekking activities is from November to May..
