Located in Northern sides of Myanmar in Kachin State.

Approach
        Yangon to Mohnyin 700 miles, Mohnyin to Hopin, 45 miles of all- weather road and Hopin to Lontene village, 27 miles of fair – weather road.

Climate
It has an annual year round raining season with an average 1440 mm rainfall. In summer, average temperature is 27.9'C and in the cold season 17.2'C.

Characteristic
        Observation of water birds, waterfowls, forest dwelling birds, other species like Green Peafowl and white-rumped Vulture, reptiles like Soft-sheel Turtle.
This vast picturesque Lake is a wetland surrounded by mixed lowland evergreen forest and deciduous forest.

Objective
        (a) To conserve the largest inland lake in Southeast Asia.
        (b) To protect resident water birds, migratory birds and forest dwelling birds.
        (c) To conserve Indawgyi watershed area.
        (d) To promote ecotourism in the region.

Wild Life
Leopard, golden cat, the malaya sun bear, gaur, banteng or wild cow, serow, goral, sport-billed pelican, vulture, other water birds, 120 species of forest birds Myanmar peacock and Soft-shell turtle are present.

 Birds Species
The largest inland lake in South-East Asia is home to many species of water birds. The lake, nearby fields and forests are habitant of many bird species including resident and migratory birds.
A flock of Gurney's Pitta, one of the threaten species is recently discovered in Tenasseri region near Myanmar-Thailand border. They are indigenous species of that region. An interesting variety of birds including terns, gulls, other sea birds, waders and many forest-dwelling species.

Note : The best time to go is from middle of October to April.
