Thandaung Trekking

          In visiting Thandaung, the best way is to take a car from Taungoo and drive up the 27 miles of undulating road. After crossing the Sittaung River see Kayin and Burma villages with rich paddy fields and various markets. Going uphill along the winding path, you can see the view of the environment with green vegetation, brooks and streams adding to the beauty of the area. And also many precious teaks, pyinkadoe, padauk, ingyin and other hardwood trees can be seen in abundance. The population is still very sparse, and nature is entirely unspoiled. So the environment is tranquil. Only the calls of the numerous birds and wild animals can be heard.

Location
Situated in South East of Myanmar in Karen state. It is 4,800 ft above sea level and over 200 miles away from Yangon.

Weather
It is tropical climate zone, annual rainfall is about 180" and average temperatures are about 65’F.

Scenery
The shape of the state is long, and narrow. The eastern mountain ranges are passing from north to south and the main Sanlwin River is also flowing like that. The mountain ranges are about 5000' in high. The western side is the low land and only about 100' wide.

It's Main attraction
There are breaths taking views from many places along the way where you can stop the car and admire the scenery and take photos. Native-style houses are node of bamboo and thatch lofty hills in the region offer a fantastic scenic sight. At the foothill lie sprawling villages and hamlets. It is in the Kayin State and is inhabited mainly by lovable and simple Bwe Kayin people. Mainly engaged in taungya (dry land farm), shifting cultivation on the gentle slopes of the foothills. You can also observe the plantation of tea and coffee.
