Kyaing Tong

          Kyaing Tong is most probably the most scenic town in the Shan state The area is surrounded by Wa shan Akha and La Hu villages. Built around a small lake and dotted with ageing Buddhist temple and crumbling British colonial architecture. Pin Tauk water fall is the very beautiful lake and interesting for trekking trip. Naung Tong Lake is a historical legendary lake and view is very beautiful. There are many villages of various ethnic tribes resided around Kyaing Tong.Kyaing Tong means "Walled City of Tong" and Tong is a reference to the kingdom's mythical founder, a hermit named Tungkalasi. Historic center for the state's Khun culture, the town is surrounded by Wa, Shan, Akha and Lahu villages. Kyaing Tong is also known for colorful tribes.

Location
Kyaing Tong is in eastern corner of the Shan state, 456km northeast of Taunggyi, 787m above sea level Kyaing Tong lies about midway between the Thanlwin River and Mekong River valleys. It is situated 456 kilometres northeast of Taunggyi and 163 kilometres north of the border town of Tachilek opposite Mae Sai, (Thailand). It is 56 miles away from Mong Lar, a Chinese border town.

The weather is cool and pleasant in all year round.

The whole area is hilly region and situated about 787' above sea level. The largest city of the Shan state.

*** Ethnic Study ***
The tribes known as Gon, Lwe, Li, Wa, Lah Hu, Thai Nay, Shan, Li Shaw, Li Su, Palaung, Akha, and we can only differentiate the tribes by colourful dresses which is different to one another. Can observe their tribal dances and their way of living on these mountainous regions around Kyaing Tong. You can visit to Wang Pauk Village (half an hour drive from Kyaing Tong) to see the Silver Palaung weaving their costumes and silver wares. It is east of KyaingTon and about 13miles away you can see Ann tribes (Black Teeth People) living in that village. On the northern of town in the village of Yang Kong, you can visit pottery works where roof tiles, utilitarian bowls and other ceramic items are made.

*** Ethnic Festival ***
Myanmar people are enjoying in making funny and holding colorful festivals, those who live in hill region and their relevant state, they also enjoy in their ways of life, their cultures, and their treble festival .So visitor who love to study the nature and culture of ethnic and their tradition festivals, should go and see in Kyaing Tong. The famous festival is Lump Wurn Festival and it is held during the harvest season respectively and famous for the traditional dance by couple.
