The Town is…

• Situated at the northern extreme part of Myanmar, 457 m above sea level.
• The place is quiet, small and surrounded by snow-capped mountains stretching from Tibet in the northwest.
• Steep fields in the valleys around cultivated.
• There are garden of hill rice, maize and millet within patches of colocasia, mixed with cereal crops cucumbers, gourd and huge marrows.
• The higher region is populated with pine, hemlock and silver fir mixed with some larch. From 2750 m to 3660 m almost pure conifer forests cover the slopes.
• The is an abundance of hard woods, oak, maple, and birch, walnut, chestnuts as well as rhododendron and others.
• The people stand for their lives by farming and cultivated paddy in the lower plains of the valley by irrigation.
• Producing orchids, grape fruits, honey and wax are famous in Putao.

The annual rain fall is always 80", but some parts fall 160 ".Average temperature is about 80 F.

The place is situated at (725) miles by air from Yang on.

Mountain ranges are stretching from north to south so that, the mighty Irrawaddy river source from it's snow-capped mountain and flow from north to south, and continue to southern sides of Myanmar.

There are many of colorful tribes are living, most people who live in Kachin state are of Tibeto-Burma origin , representing four main language group the Jinghpaw, Maru, Yawyin and Lisu. Jingphaw are the major group of Kachin, and others are Hkahku (means up river people), Rawawng (live in valley and mountain region), Azi (entered to Myanmar from Tibetan –Chinese border), Maru (2nd major sub group) Lashi (who believe in animism), Taron (live at the foot hill of the Mt.Khakaborazi).
