Khakaborazi Trip

The Mountain is
Mt: Khakaborazi lies 180 miles north of Putao, the northernmost part of Kachin State. It is a bout 1935 ft (5881 m) above sea level and the highest mountain in South East Asia, Usually covered by ice and snow for about "8" months a year. Except in August and September.

How To Get There
It is 725 miles far away from Yang on, From Putao to Machanbaw by car, continues for 35 miles by hiking and trekking up and down the hills, till the town of Naungmon, the northern most town of Myanmar.

The round trip of Putao Mt.kakaborazi would take 40 days. It is important to carry two extra day’s worth of supplies and sufficient number of carriers. Otherwise it will delay the trip.

The best time to start the trip from Putao to the foot of the mountain is in early September. For experienced climber, they can reach the top and be back to the base-camp in a matter of 12 days.

The weather is
It is important to note that the weather at the top is always changing from hour to hour. We offer one fixed departure a year in early December or January, when the weather is clearest and the cool temperatures are ideal for trekking.

Description
First climbed in 1996 by Takeshi Ozaki of Japan and U Nama Johnson of Myanmar, it has never been climbed since. This area is now immortalized by Conservationist Alan Rabinowitz’s classic book “Beyond the Last Village” To this day, only a handful of outsiders have been privileged enough to follow in his footsteps. Our isolated three week trek follows the climbing approach route through Khakaborazi National Park along the Tamai river valley Then high up the Adung river in sight of the glaciers that tumble off snow capped Mountains – the very source of the mighty Ayeyarwaddy River. This extensive journey takes us through what is considered by many to be the most spectacular intact forest wilderness of it’s kind in Asia.
